2010 Upcoming Workshops: Pastel Plein Aire Painting August 28-30/Friday evening through Sunday afternoon/ Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, Cazenovia, NY Pastel is colorful and portable, the ideal medium to take en plein aire to capture the unique beauty of the landscape. This three-day program will provide an opportunity for students to hone their observation skills and develop personal expression as they observe and record the color, light, and texture of the landscape. We will explore the elements of picture-making: compositional design, line, shape, value, and color all the while emphasizing the distinct qualities of the pastel medium. Day sessions will be on site at Stone Quarry Art Park and in the Cazenovia area. The evening session will provide an opportunity to focus on pastel materials and techniques including mixed-media and to prepare a variety of surfaces to work on. Participants will receive individual instruction in the field and the group will assemble for critiques. Beginning to advanced students are welcome. Tuition is $190. For more information call 315-655-3196 or email office@stonequarryhillartpark.org Color: Making it work for you October 18, 25, and November 1, 8, 15, 6-8 p.m. This color theory based course will provide the information you need to make effective color choices for art and design projects. Highlights include a close look at color interaction, the importance of value in creating variety in design, the diverse effects of color combinations, and the messages and meanings color communicates. Participants may choose to work with paint, paper (a materials list will be supplied), or digitally if experienced with Illustrator/Photoshop.
