The Intrigue of Venice: The Lagoon City Captivating Travelers for Centuries

A tour for artists, art appreciators, and lovers of Italy

Telling Venice’s story through the eyes of travelers

September 14 - 20, 2026

Together with my dear friend, Renaissance art historian and private tour guide Paola Vojnovic, I invite you for a uniquely personal visit to Venice!

In 2024 we created the successful Opening Doors in Venice. Like that tour this one will be a unique introduction to the city we both love, to its people and places that are not accessible to typical tourists.

Even before the seventeenth century when La Serenissima became a key stop on the Grand Tour though Europe, the Venetian republic was a cultural crossroads and important commercial center that drew both long term and transient visitors. We’ll look at how those foreigners were integrated into Venetian life and how they impacted the city. We’ll take a close look at painters who’ve given us images of the city over time: from 15th century Carpaccio to 18th century Canaletto and the British, French, and American painters who came later.

Expert guides will travel with us. We’ll have opportunities to meet contemporary artists and artisans, to visit museums and private sites not open to the public. We‘ll enjoy walking tours of Venetian sestieres and spend a day exploring the northern lagoon. Our meals will be in special trattorias and ristorantes offering us fine Venetian cuisine.

About us: Paola and I first met in 2007 when together we led a college student tour to Venice. By then we both were in love with the city. My first visit was as a school girl in 1967; Paola first arrived in 2000 to work at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. After multiple visits and experiences since, we both can share with you our passions and connections to Venice, La Serenissima, The Most Serene Republic. This tour is unique to us and because of who we are. We love Venice and want to share it with you!
